To help mould one’s character and strengthen one’s sense of responsibility in society. 5. To learn about the Chinese culture, so as to help one identify with one’s country and race.

Features of the Curriculum

In developing the various subject curriculums, the school has established a multi-language learning environment to foster students’ interest in learning Chinese and to improve their self-learning ability. Since young children can learn new languages very well and pick them up easily, the school has adopted Putonghua as the medium of instruction for Chinese language class for students in P1 up to P3. This will enable our students to learn Putonghua at a young age. Our students in P4 through P6 begin to make preparations to advance to secondary school. As a way to help our students make the transition to secondary school, we have designed our Chinese curriculum such that they learn Chinese language in Cantonese, as most local secondary schools use Cantonese as the medium of instruction for Chinese language. However, our Chinese curriculum for P4 to P6 still includes Putonghua classes so that students at these levels will learn Chinese in both Cantonese and Putonghua.

Chinese Activities

Other than the academic side of things, we do place an emphasis on the importance of learning about the Chinese culture on the part of our students. Every year, we have Chinese Cultural Days (for Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year) and Chinese Day. We also organise cross-subject activities along with Visual Arts so that students get to do various activities that are exciting. In the process, students have fun from playing games but at the same time learn about the Chinese culture and gain useful knowledge.
