Principal's Message

1 September 2024

Dear Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Alumni,

As I step into the role of Principal at Rosaryhill School, my heart is filled with joy and gratitude. The upcoming celebration of our 65th anniversary adds to the excitement. The deep-rooted history and traditions that have shaped our school community hold great significance for me, and I consider it a privilege to be a part of this remarkable journey.

As a Catholic school Principal, I am committed to following the example set by Jesus Christ, our ultimate shepherd leader and servant leader. Just as a good shepherd knows and cares for his sheep, my first priority is to know each one of you—our teachers, staff, and students. It is through this understanding that I hope to cultivate an environment of trust, love, and support. In the spirit of servant leadership, my second priority is to serve you. I am here not only as an administrator, but also as a guide and mentor. I aim to provide the necessary resources, guidance, and encouragement to help each one of you thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

As we enter this new school year, I invite each and every one of you to embrace and live out the five Core Values that form the foundation of Catholic education—Truth, Justice, Love, Life, and Family. These values are not just words, but guiding principles that will shape our interactions, decisions, and actions within our school community. I believe that by incorporating these values into our daily lives, we can create a nurturing and inclusive environment that fosters growth and inspires greatness.

In addition to academic pursuits, we will also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities and sports programmes. These activities will not only help students build confidence and develop their talents but also teach them valuable life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. We believe that these experiences will prepare our students to face and overcome the challenges and hardships that they may encounter in their lives.

This year, as we celebrate our 65th anniversary, our theme is "One Mind, One Heart, One Path." This theme embodies the unity and harmony that we strive for within our school community. Together, we will embark on a journey of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and personal development. Our commitment to providing a well-rounded curriculum will ensure that each student has the opportunity to flourish in all aspects of their lives.

As we begin this new school year, I humbly ask Holy Mary, Mother of God, to pray for us. May her intercession guide and protect us throughout the year, as we strive for growth, learning, and compassion. With her support, we embark on this journey with hope and purpose.

Dear Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Alumni,

It feels like just yesterday when I started my journey at Rosaryhill School, and now, three months have already flown by. I am delighted to see that we have an excellent team of dedicated teachers and staff. They always put the students at the centre and work wholeheartedly. It is especially gratifying to see how conscientiously the teachers teach and provide various learning opportunities for the students.

The school also places great importance on extracurricular activities, allowing the students to develop their physical fitness, resilience, and ability to cope with adversity through a variety of extracurricular activities. During the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, the students learned about traditional Chinese festivals and made lanterns. During the morning assembly, we all recited Su Shi's poem "When Shall We Have a Bright Moon?" together. On the Character-Play Day, both the teachers and students displayed unlimited creativity and portrayed various fascinating characters. I believe these activities will leave us with wonderful memories. Every Monday during the morning assembly, I share short stories and my life experiences with the students, aiming to impart correct values and attitudes towards life. I also lead the teachers and students in prayers because we believe in God's blessings.

Christmas is approaching, and may we all understand the true meaning of Christmas, which is to commemorate the birth of Christ and bring hope and love to the world, realizing that God is love. Let us pray to God for help in bringing peace and love to our families, friends, and those in need.

In this spirit, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!

Dear Students, Parents, and Alumni,

As we approach the start of the Year of the Dragon, I want to extend a warm greeting on behalf of the entire school community. I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support and dedication throughout the past year. Together, we have faced challenges and opportunities, and your presence has helped us navigate them successfully.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to share with you one aspect of the dragon's spirit: creativity. Dragons, with their deep cultural significance, have inspired countless artistic, literary, and mythological creations throughout human history. They are depicted in various forms of art, such as sculptures and paintings, and have played diverse roles in literature and mythology. Dragons symbolize power, mystery, and guardianship in different cultures. Their influence extends to music, dance, and film, showcasing humanity's fascination and creativity surrounding these mythical creatures. Overall, dragons have left a lasting impact on human culture and thought, serving as a source of imagination and inspiration.

Furthermore, let us foster a spirit of innovation. The dragon's creativity and versatility inspire us to think outside the box and break free from convention. In this fast-changing world, innovation drives progress. I encourage each of you to cultivate innovative thinking and practical skills that contribute to the development of our nation and humanity. This pursuit of knowledge and innovation aligns with the Catholic teachings of seeking truth, discerning God's will, and using our talents for the greater good.

May the Year of the Dragon bring you joy, good health, and success. As we embark on this new journey, let us seek guidance from our faith, trusting in God's love and grace to guide us along the way.

God bless you all!

Dear Rosaryhill School Students, Parents, and Alumni,

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. As we approach the Easter season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this time and share some important news regarding our beloved school.

First and foremost, let us remember the profound love bestowed upon us by God. Through His mercy and grace, He sent His only son to save us, as mentioned in John 3:16. This Easter, let's embrace the message of hope and renewal that comes with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. May it inspire us to face difficulties with courage, never giving up on our dreams and aspirations.

With mixed emotions, in September 2023, the Sponsoring Body has made the difficult announcement of our school's closure at the end of this academic year, marking a remarkable 65 years of dedicated service to the community. This decision was not arrived at hastily; instead, it reflects a thoughtful assessment of the evolving educational landscape and the ever-changing needs of our students and families.

However, I want to assure you that the Dalton School Hong Kong is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all our students. We have been working diligently to establish a new school here, one that will carry forward the legacy and values that have defined our institution for so many years. This new chapter will provide our students with a fresh start and opportunities for successful study.

To our Primary School students, your journey with us has been filled with laughter, growth, and countless memories. As we bid farewell to our current school, remember that your achievements and experiences will forever be cherished. Embrace this transition as a chance to form new friendships, explore new subjects, and continue to flourish academically and personally.

To the parents, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years. Your trust in our educational approach and commitment to your children's development have been invaluable. As we embark on this new endeavour, I assure you that we will continue to prioritise our students' well-being and provide an enriching learning environment.

Lastly, to our esteemed alumni, you have played an integral role in shaping the identity of our school. Your contributions to society and accomplishments in various fields are a testament to the excellent education you received. We hope that you will continue to stay connected and be proud ambassadors of the Rosaryhill legacy.

In conclusion, let us embrace the Easter season with hope and resilience. Change is an inevitable part of life, and it is through embracing new beginnings that we can continue to grow and thrive. Together, we have built a strong foundation, and I am confident that the Dalton School Hong Kong's new chapter will bring even greater success and opportunities for our students.

Wishing you all a blessed Easter and a future filled with joy and achievement.

Warm regards,

Dear Rosaryhill School Students, Teachers, Parents, and Alumni,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today. As the new principal of Rosaryhill School (RS), I have been entrusted with the challenging task of guiding our school through its final year of operation.

To our current students, I want you to know that you are all welcome to continue your studies at Dalton School Hong Kong, which will offer both international and local curricula. This transition will ensure that you can complete your education without disruption, building upon the strong foundation of moral values and lifelong friendships that RS has instilled in you.

As we embark on this final year together, I urge you all to remain focused and determined. I know that the road ahead may be challenging, but I have no doubt that you will rise to the occasion and achieve great success in your upcoming final examinations. Remember, hard work and perseverance are the keys to unlocking your full potential. As the Bible reminds us, "Everything is possible in Him who has strengthened me." (Philippians 4:13)

I also want to emphasize the importance of upholding the school motto, "Veritas," which means "Truth." This core value has been the guiding principle of RS, and it is my hope that you will continue to seek and uphold the truth in all your endeavours, both during your time here and in the years to come. Additionally, I encourage you to embrace the five core values of Catholic education: Truth, Justice, Love, Family, and Life. These values will serve as a compass to guide you on your journey.

To our teachers, I applaud your unwavering dedication and commitment to our students. Your tireless efforts have shaped the lives of countless individuals, and your impact will continue to be felt long after these walls have closed. As Helen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." To our parents and alumni, your support and loyalty have been the bedrock of RS. Your continued involvement and guidance will be invaluable as we navigate this transition and lay the groundwork for the next chapter of this institution.

As we bid farewell to RS, I want you all to know that you will forever be in our hearts. The memories and lessons you have gained here will continue to shape your journey, and the values you have learned will serve as a guiding light in all your future endeavours.

May God bless you all, and may Christ our Lord continue to guide you on the path to success.

Sincerely,

Julian Yip
